AFES Elevates Its Sustainability Initiatives

DRB-HICOM Environmental Services (DHES), a wholly owned subsidiary of Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora), has undergone a rebranding exercise by changing its name to Alam Flora Environmental Solutions (AFES). The new name is a reflection of the company’s role as a total solutions provider that supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially when it comes to recycling activities and driving the circular economy model.

The rebranding exercise, which includes a new logo and website, was officiated by the Housing and Local Government Minister, YB Puan Hajah Zuraida bt Kamaruddin, on 17 November 2020 at Alam Flora’s Fasiliti Inovasi Kitar Semula (FIKS), Putrajaya.

FIKS is an education center for recycling processes and waste recovery that was developed by Alam Flora primarily to educate the public on Total Waste Management Processes, promote Alam Flora Group’s services and create awareness on its Integrated Recycling Facility (IRF) and recycling activities. The centre also supports Perbadanan Putrajaya’s mission towards becoming a Green City by 2025.

The IRF, developed by AFES, was built as a means of supporting the SGD initiatives. Among the facilities provided at the IRF are an area for the collection and processing of recyclables which includes conveyor machines, compressors and shredders for recycling. There are also facilities for used cooking oil collection, e-waste, and Anaerobic Digestion (AD) for converting food waste into biogas, electricity and bio-fertilizer.

In addition to being a catalyst in contributing towards sustainable development, the IRF is also expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing the country’s recycling industry and ‘Trash to Cash’ business creation.

AFES continues to offer holistic environmental solutions through Asset and Facilities Management, Infrastructure Cleansing and Waste Solutions and Waste Management Facility. The company aims to support the SDGs through sustainable development, by harnessing the latest technologies in environmental services.
