Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib

Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer

Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, aged 48, male, Malaysian, joined the Company as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (“MD/CEO”) on 1 December 2020. Prior to joining Malakoff, Anwar was the MD/CEO of UEM Sunrise Berhad from 1 September 2014 until 30 October 2020. Anwar was awarded the Outstanding Property CEO of the Year by The Edge Malaysia in 2018. 

Other than being the MD/CEO of Malakoff, Anwar also sits on the Board of Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, Malakoff Power Berhad and several other subsidiaries and associate companies under the Malakoff Group. He is the Deputy Chairman of Muscat City Desalination Company S.A.O.G., an associate company of Malakoff which is listed on the Muscat Securities Market. 

Anwar started his career with Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn. Bhd. in 1996 as an executive in Fleet Distribution where he gained considerable experience in transport and logistics. Subsequent thereto, he assumed a position of Senior Associate (Assurance and Business Advisory) in Arthur Andersen Manchester, United Kingdom from 1998 to 2001. He then joined Arthur Andersen/Ernst & Young Kuala Lumpur as Senior Associate/Chartered Accountant (Assurance and Business Advisory) in 2002. Anwar Syahrin left the practice to become the Managing Director/Consultant of Business Associates Consulting Sdn. Bhd. providing strategy and management consulting services from December 2002 to March 2006.

In April 2006, Anwar was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) of Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd until May 2008 before his appointment as Director, Finance/Group CFO of MMC Corporation Berhad (“MMC”) in June 2008. He had also assumed the position of Group Head, Ports and Logistics Division of MMC from January to August 2014.

Anwar currently sits on the Board of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and is the Chairman of the Rector Selection Committee of UiTM.  

Anwar obtained his Master in Business Administration (MBA) from University of Salford, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales, United Kingdom (FCA, ICAEW) and a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. 

He had also attended the Leadership at the Peak Program held at Arosa, Switzerland organised by the Center for Creative Leadership which is headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, US and the CFO Senior Leadership Executive Education Program at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, US. 

Clive Anthony Smith

Chief Operating Officer

Clive Anthony Smith, aged 57, male, a British citizen, graduated from The Open University, United Kingdom, with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering in 1996. He is also a Chartered Engineer and Fellow Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

He joined the Company as the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) on 16 September 2020.

He started his career as an Instrument Craft Apprentice at Aberthaw Coal Fired Power Station, United Kingdom and has more than 41 years of working experience in the power industry, both in the UK and overseas. He has a wide knowledge of various technologies in the sector and has extensive experience in Operations, Maintenance and Engineering.
Throughout his career, he has held several senior positions including the Management of plants in the UK and the Philippines, leading on strategic challenges and improving overall business performance. It was also during this time that he was engaged for 30 months at Malakoff's Tanjung Bin Power Plant. 
Prior to joining Malakoff, Clive was the Executive Director of O&M (Coal) at Aboitiz Power Corporation, in the Philippines.

As the COO, Clive plays a key role in ensuring that the Group achieves its strategic objectives and results from both the operational and financial perspectives.

Mohd Nazersham Mansor

Chief Financial Officer

Mohd Nazersham Mansor, aged 47, male, a Malaysian, obtained a Degree in Accounting & Finance from De Montfort University, United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Association of the Chartered Certified Accountants (“FCCA”), United Kingdom. He is also a Member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

He joined as the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) of the Company on 1 December 2017.
He began his career with KPMG, Malaysia in 1997 as an auditor and later joined MMC Corporation Berhad in the year 2000 as Group Accountant. Between 2004 and 2012, he served Sapura Group of Companies and was the General Manager, Corporate Strategy & Development, his last position before he joined Petra Energy Berhad. He then assumed the position of General Manager of MMC Group from 2014 to 2016 and was previously the CFO for MMC Port Holdings Sdn. Bhd. He has covered the provision of accounting, financial management, taxation, treasury and corporate finance in his 20 years of experience.

Dato’ Haji Mohd Zain Hassan

Chief Executive Officer - Alam Flora Sdn Bhd

Dato’ Haji Mohd Zain Hassan, aged 54, male, a Malaysian, currently helms the country’s largest solid waste management company, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (“Alam Flora”) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Alam Flora Environmental Solutions Sdn Bhd (“AFES”). Alam Flora is one of the three concessionaires appointed by the Government under the full-privatisation of solid waste management in the country.
Dato’ Hj. Mohd Zain graduated in Technology in Education from Universiti Sains Malaysia and obtained a diploma in English as a Second Language from Universiti Malaya. He later enrolled in the Executive Education Programme from Harvard Business School. 
Going beyond waste management and integrated environmental solutions, both Alam Flora and AFES, play an integral role in the development of the country’s environment sector, in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (“SDG”) and the country’s National Cleanliness Policy.
With over 20 years of hands-on experience serving various positions in Alam Flora, from field operations to top management, he currently leads a strong team of more than 9,000 workers who are responsible for the cleansing and collection of solid waste in its concession areas of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Pahang Darul Makmur.  He was also instrumental in Alam Flora’s previous venture into the Middle East, namely Kingdom of Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, UAE.  
Prior to Alam Flora, he was the Deputy General Manager at E-Idaman Sdn Bhd, one of the three solid waste management concessionaires in Malaysia. 
In recognition of his years of dedication and able stewardship in leading Alam Flora and serving the communities through managing and reducing solid waste with minimal environmental impact, he was conferred with the Darjah Indera Mulia Pahang (DIMP) by the state of Pahang in 2017, which carries the title Dato’.

Vincent Yap Leng Khim

Senior Vice President, Corporate Services Division

Vincent Yap Leng Khim, aged 47, male, a Malaysian, graduated from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) in 1996. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales and admitted as a Barrister by Lincoln’s Inn, London in 1997. He was subsequently called to the Malaysian Bar and admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1998.

He joined the Company as the Senior Vice President, Corporate Services Division on 1 December 2017. 

Prior to joining Malakoff, he worked at Zelan Berhad for 8 years, in the capacity as Head of Legal for 2 years and then as Director of Corporate Services for 6 years. While in the legal profession, he was a Partner at Albar & Partners, Advocates & Solicitors, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, initial public offerings, corporate banking, debt capital markets, structured finance and asset backed securitisation. He had previously served as a Legal Counsel at OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad, handling mainly corporate and investment banking portfolios.

He has approximately 10 years of experience in legal profession and 11 years of in-house legal experience in the energy, banking, engineering and construction industries.

Mohammed Azmil Ismail

Senior Vice President, Local Generation Division

Mohammed Azmil Ismail, aged 51, male, a Malaysian, obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The George Washington University, Washington D.C., United States of America. He attended the Senior Management Development Programme in Malaysia in August 2006.

He has been appointed as the Senior Vice President, Local Generation Division on 1 September 2019.

Azmil joined Malakoff in November 1994 and held various positions at Lumut Power Plant, with the last being the Head of Maintenance & Engineering prior to his appointment as the Plant Manager of Prai Power Plant in 2008. Following that, he was assigned to an O&M project in Kuwait as the Plant Manager of Azzour EPP Plant (2008 to 2013) and Plant Manager of Azzour CCGT2 Plant, Kuwait (2013 to 2015). Upon his return to Malaysia, he was appointed as the Plant Manager of Lumut Power Plant (2015 to 2016).

Subsequently, Azmil was appointed as the Head of Engineering, Local Generation Division in 2016 and assumed his current role as the Head of Local Generation Division in February 2019.
