As part of its continuous efforts to help ease the burden faced by Pahang residents due to the recent devastating floods, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (“Alam Flora”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”), collected more than 590 tonnes of solid waste between 6 and 11 January 2021 in heavily affected areas such as Kuala Lipis, Temerloh, Maran, Bera, Jerantut, Raub, Cameron Highlands and Tioman Island.

Responding quickly to the situation, around 100 workers and 50 support vehicles were immediately deployed to the affected areas. The team worked extra shifts to ensure that the said areas are accessible again, while adhering to the strict safety requirements imposed by the Government.

The team also worked together with the local authorities and volunteers to clean clogged drains, mud-covered buildings and roads as well as to clear various types and sizes of waste including bulky items such as furniture and electrical appliances.

Alam Flora’s top management, led by its Chief Executive Officer, YBhg. Dato’ Haji Mohd Zain Hassan, visited the affected areas as a show of support by giving encouragement to these ‘unsung heroes’ while distributing food packs and other daily essentials to some of the 403 Alam Flora workers who were also affected by the floods.

“Amid the pandemic and all its challenges, our countrymen now have had to endure the destructive aftermath of the floods. This makes it harder for the flood victims to remain sanitary and truly practice social distancing when they are clambering to find any remains of their homes to shelter their families. We feel that it is our responsibility to provide them with our service immediately in order for them to get back to their normal routine”, said Dato’ Mohd Zain.

“Even though we may not be able to replace what has been lost, we hope with our services, it will at least ease their burden and motivate them to carry forward with their lives”.
