On 27 April 2019, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) organised a friendly futsal tournament for the seventh year running with participating teams from Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (“MESTECC”), Energy Commission (“ST”) and Ministry of Economic Affairs (“MEA”) at Sports Planet, Ampang.

Two teams from each organisation totalling to approximately 100 participants were seen mingling and strategising as early as 9 a.m. while colleagues and family members were starting to arrive at the venue to show support.

The qualifying matches kicked off at 10 a.m. in high spirit where respective teams were fighting hard to keep possession of the ball. Players showing off their skills with impressive maneuvers and dribbles in hopes to score enough goals to make it through the Semi Finals, while shouts and roaring from the spectators could be heard in the background that further intensified the atmosphere.

After nearly 30 minutes, the teams qualified for the Semi Final round were selected. Team Malakoff B was put against Team MEA B while Team MESTECC B was put against Team MESTECC A in the fight to determine the final two teams that would make it to the Final round.

After a highly competitive performance by all four teams, Team MEA B and Team MESTECC A rose to the occasion and put up an admirably good fight that proved how skills and endurance could play such a complementary role in the game of futsal. In the end, Team MESTECC A emerged as champions with an unbeaten lead of 5-0.

The prizes to all winners were presented by En Yusop Abdul Rashid, Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Stakeholder Management, Malakoff.

In his congratulatory speech, En Yusop Abdul Rashid mentioned, “It’s always great to be networking with our stakeholders in a more relaxed setting as it allows all parties to get to know each other on a more personal level.”

“Additionally, activities such as these can also serve as platform for everyone involved to start taking the initial steps into leading a much active and healthier lifestyle,” he added.
