On 14 September 2017, Lumut Power Plant (LPP), wholly-owned by Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) participated in the National Firefighting and Rescue competition held at Fire and Rescue Academy of Malaysia, Eastern Region, Marang, Terengganu. The event was held in conjunction with the 19th National Fire Operation Skill Competition organized by Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia.
LPP was chosen by Perak Fire and Rescue Department to represent Perak alongside a team from KPJ Ipoh. A total of 16 Emergency Response Teams (ERT) took part in the competition.
LPP ERT team headed to Terengganu with strong determination to record the fastest time and avoid penalties during the safety drills. The team consisted of Noraminizam Abu Bakar, Muhammad Ikram Sunai, Hairul Ismail, Muhammad Sukri Omar, Mohammad Zulhaidi Baharin and En. Azmi Din as the team manager.
During the competition, five team members of the rescue team were required to put out fire from the makeshift building and rescue a dummy victim from the building. Then, the team was required to carry the victim on a stretcher to the finish line. Although the task looked easy, the team members had to wear full gear and carry heavy water hose whilst going through obstacles such as culverts and tires in order to rescue the victim. The competition also required the team members to be fast and have considerable strength as they need to finish the task smoothly.
Speaking of the competition, LPP Plant Manager, En Mohd Salehuddin Abu Bakar was honored that LPP was chosen to represent Perak in the national-level competition. “With the training and experience that they had in the field, they showed that they were a force to be reckoned with in the competition,” he added.
The event was officiated by Menteri Besar Terengganu, YAB Dato’ Seri Haji Ahmad Razif bin Abd Rahman.
