A friendly bowling match between Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) and the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) Group comprising of the New Straits Times (NST), Berita Harian (BH) and Harian Metro (HM), was held on 3 November 2018 at Ampang Superbowl, @eCurve, Petaling Jaya. The event was organized by Malakoff in an effort to strengthen the networking and working relationship with the media.

En. Ahmad Lokman, Convergence Editor, Business, from NST started the ball rolling with the first throw of the match.

In the true spirit of sportsmanship, 40 bowlers participated in the event, representing NTSP Group and Malakoff, that were then split into 10 teams.

As each team was made up of participants from different companies, Round 1 was served as the ‘warm-up’ phase for team members to gauge each other’s bowling style and skills before moving on to Round 2.

All teams displayed great teamwork as they eyed for the first-place titles in the Individual and Group categories.

After an intense 2 hours filled with suspense, the match was finally over. En. Ahmad Lokman was again called upon for the prize giving ceremony.

En. Huzairy from BH bagged the first place title for the Individual Category with a total of 363 total of pin falls, while En. Asrizal Aris from HM came in second by a small margin of 347 pin falls. 3rd place was won by Abdul Rashid Abd Hamid from HM, followed by Garret Anak Dawum from HM and Ricky Yap from BH for 4th and 5th place.

As for the Group Category, 1st place was grabbed by Team 10 which consisted of En. Pizan Mustafa from from NST, En. Huzairy from BH, En. Abdul Rashid Abd Hamid from HM and En. Mohd Yusof Mokhtar from Malakoff, with a total of 1260 of pin falls altogether. Team 2 fell closely behind with a total of 1107 pin falls, while Team 3 won the 3rd place with a total of 1078 pin falls. Team 6 and Team 8 came in 4th and 5th place respectively.

When asked on his thoughts on the event, En. Ahmad Lokman said, “We had a lot of fun today.”

“It’s not often we get to relax from working very hard in the office especially right after Budget 2019, so this was a good stress reliever for everyone. Plus, we always enjoy whenever we get the opportunity to socialize with companies on a more relaxed atmosphere. Thanks Malakoff, and we hope to do it again next year,” he added.
