Malakoff Corporation Berhad, through its wholly-owned Tanjung Bin Power Plant, came to the aid of a family that was left homeless due to a fire that broke out at their home at Jalan Parit Haji Ahmad, Serkat Barat Laut, Kukup at noon on 5 June 2018. Serkat Barat Laut is located near the vicinity of the plant.

The fire caused by a short circuit overload in the house’s electrical wiring was so severe that nothing could be saved from being incinerated. The head of the family, Abdul Rahman bin Atan, who works as a sports recreation centre supervisor and breadwinner of the family, was devastated that the fire not only destroyed his home but also deprived them of their Raya preparation. Abdul Rahman fends for his family of six which included a daughter who has hearing disabilities and attends a special needs class at Sekolah Menengah Dato’ Penggawa, Pontian.

Upon knowing of the tragic incident, the plant’s personnel organised an ad hoc collection of used clothes and food items for the family. They also voluntarily came up with a cash contribution of RM1,000 which was handed over to the family together with the items that they collected. At the company level, Malakoff also contributed RM5,000 to the family to make their Raya celebration more meaningful.

Abdul Rahman was grateful with the kind gesture showed by Malakoff and its staff in his family’s time of need. He also added, “I accept this fate that has happened to my family as a test from Allah. At the same time, I am overwhelmed by the support and compassion showed by Malakoff and its staff at Tanjung Bin Power Plant during this trying time.”
