In an effort to enhance their steadfast commitment to sustainable practices, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) and its subsidiary, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (“Alam Flora”), participated in the Science Based Targets initiative (“SBTi”) & Climate Symposium 2024 organised by the UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (“UNGCMYB”) on 11 June 2024 at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre in Bangsar.
Officiated by Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Yang Berhormat (“YB”) Tuan Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, this year’s symposium adopts the theme of ‘From Climate Pledges to Action’, emphasising the urgency of transforming climate change into tangible actions. The symposium highlights the critical need to accelerate climate initiatives, to significantly reduce emissions and promote sustainable development.
During the event, Malakoff showcased its innovative ‘Green Solutions,’ such as the solar photovoltaic technology, which allows consumers to reduce their monthly electricity bills by generating part of their energy from solar power. Meanwhile, Alam Flora displayed its Fasiliti Inovasi Kitar Semula (“FIKS”), a one-stop recycling hub aimed at reducing environmental impact through efficient and proper waste management.
Malakoff’s Head of Sustainability, Research, and Investor Relations, Mr. Saravanan Desigamanie was invited as a panellist for the discussion on “Practitioner Sharing on ScienceBased Target Setting.” During his session, Mr. Saravanan highlighted Malakoff's concerted efforts to reduce carbon emissions, highlighting specifically on Malakoff’s recent launch of the Biomass Co-firing project.
This initiative is part of Malakoff's continuous efforts to establish partnerships through active participation in relevant green initiatives. It aligns with its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (“UN SDG”) No. 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, which emphasises the importance of global partnerships to achieve sustainable development. This commitment also supports the Net Zero Emissions target by 2050 and is consistent with Malakoff's overarching purpose of 'Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities.'
