Malakoff Celebrates Aidiladha with the Local Communities After Two Years

5 July 2022

In conjunction with this year’s much anticipated Aidiladha celebration, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) organised a series of ‘sacrificial meat’ handovers to the surrounding communities where its thermal plants operate, after a two-year respite due to the pandemic lockdowns. The first event of the series was held at Masjid Khairul Jariah in Segari on 6th July 2022, followed by Masjid Al-Amin in Mukim Serkat on 8th July 2022 and Masjid Padang Lallang in Prai on 10th July 2022.

As part of its continuous community engagement activities, Malakoff donated seven cows to be slaughtered or sacrificed as part of Aidiladha’s customary ritual to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s faith in God. Once the cows were received by the respective representatives from each Masjid, a congregation of people off the surrounding areas would perform the slaughtering ceremony and distribute the meat in packets for the less fortunate residing in their areas.

The ceremonies were officiated by Encik Lan Sukaimy from Lumut Power Plant, Encik Mohd Kopli Yunus from Tanjung Bin Power Plant and Encik Mat Nasir Mahamed from Prai Power Plant, respectively.

When asked about the revival of community-based activities such as this, the Village Head of Mukim Serkat Tuan Zool Shuhaifi bin Hashim shared that it is necessary to upkeep the camaraderie within the community and instil the act of ‘gotong-royong’ especially among the younger generation.

“Due to the pandemic lockdowns, we were not able to hold any religious affairs that would garner community participation such as this but now the restrictions have been eased and everyone is slowly transitioning into their pre-pandemic lives, we have seen encouraging participation from the community for this slaughtering ritual,” said Tuan Zool Shuhaifi.

“It’s very comforting to see everyone getting acquainted with each other again. I truly hope that such camaraderie will be passed down to the next generation and communal work will always be the foundation to nurture the spirit of togetherness”.

This initiative is part of Malakoff’s Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiatives, focusing on the Community pillar. Besides enhancing a close working relationship with various stakeholders and the local communities, we hope that initiatives like these will further cultivate the spirit of ‘giving back to the community’ while fostering a stronger bond between one another.
