Malakoff Continues Its Free Breakfast Programme, ‘Jom Sarap’ For The Students Of Mukim Serkat

30 March 2019

Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme called ‘Jom Sarap’ on 31 March 2019 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Andek Mori in Mukim Serkat, Johor for the second year running. Officiated by Yang Berhormat Tuan Suhaizan Kayat, Speaker Dewan Undangan Negeri Johor and witnessed by Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff, the programme was continued after gaining positive feedback and tremendous support from the participating schools. The launch was also attended by Yang Berusaha Tuan Roslan Bokari, Penghulu Mukim Serkat, and Tuan Haji Shaharudin Basri bin Ibrahim, Pegawai Pendidikan Daerah Pontian.

Aimed to provide the school children with nutritious breakfast to improve their focus in class and to encourage them to come early to school, this year, a total of 985 school children from 7 different schools located in Mukim Serkat, Pontian will benefit from this initiative which will run from 31 March 2019 until the end of the current school year.

The schools involved are Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Durian, Sekolah Kebangsaan Serkat, Sekolah Kebangsaan Andek Mori, Sekolah Kebangsaan Permas Kelapa, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Sinaran Chokoh, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Boh and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Pei Chiao.

Speaking of the CSR programme, Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said, “As the programme has been proved effective in elevating the students’ focus and concentration in class, it is our duty to ensure that this continues. We truly hope that by consuming a wholesome breakfast every morning, they will not only feel energized in school, but they’ll embed it in their daily routine to eat a proper meal for breakfast for a much healthier lifestyle”.

In his speech, Yang Berhormat Tuan Suhaizan expressed his gratitude towards Malakoff’s involvement with the local community. “We are grateful to Malakoff for their contribution to the local community, especially when it comes to helping the younger generation improve and excel in their education.”

“A lot of the families here work day and night to make ends meet. Therefore, such programme is imperative to reduce the gap between the families living in the city and those living in the rural area and give their children an equal playing field to compete with each other in terms of academics.”

The school children were later served with breakfast by YB Suhaizan and Dato’ Fuaad who were appropriately clad in aprons and hats, and mingled with them at the school canteen.

Further to “Jom Sarap”, Malakoff will be conducting a series of tuition classes for UPSR candidates which commences from April until August this year, and a UPSR motivational and examination technique seminar. Collectively, all of the said programmes are under Malakoff’s CSR Education Programme in Mukim Serkat.

An orphan and student from Sekolah Kebangsaan Andek Mori, Zulaikha Zaini expressed her relief with the introduction of this initiative. “Breakfast is not always served at home and I usually go to school on an empty stomach. Hence, this initiative ensures that I get proper nutrition in the morning that helps me to concentrate in class as I aim to work hard to give a better future for my family.”
