14 March 2024

39 students from Segari, Lumut, Perak and Mukim Serkat, Pontian, Johor were given much-needed financial assistance in their continued pursuit of higher education when they became the beneficiaries of this year’s Malakoff Corporation Berhad’s(“Malakoff”) zakat disbursement to the less fortunate.

With a combined contribution of RM30,000, the financial support allows the students to be better prepared as they enrol at their chosen universities or colleges soon. This initiative provides assurance that students can concentrate on their mental preparedness for university life without the burden of financial concerns.

The handing over of the zakat aid were held on 23 January and 29 February, respectively. The event in Pontian was attended by Lumut Power Plant Manager Encik Anwar Faisal, along with Malakoff’s Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs Unit from Group Communications and Branding Encik Md Yuha Ismail and the Village Head of Segari Encik Ismail Ibrahim. Meanwhile, in Pontian, the ceremony was attended by the Village Chief of Mukim Serkat Encik Nor Hazam Md Jaiz, and representation from Tanjung Bin Power Plant Encik Mohamed Ali Mohamed.

This initiative is part of Malakoff’s Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) undertakings, focusing on the Community pillar, where it demonstrates Malakoff’s continuous commitment to support community development in areas where its plants operate. It is also in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals No.11 (“SDG”), which contributes to the objective of making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. It is aligned with the company’s purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’.

Besides enhancing relationships with the local communities, it is hoped that CSR initiatives like these will further cultivate the spirit of ‘giving back to the community’ while fostering a stronger bond between one another.
