Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) held a motivational talk and examination seminar for UPSR students in Mukim Serkat entitled “Program Kecemerlangan UPSR” from 10 to 12 May 2018 at Tanjung Piai Resort, Johor. The purpose of the seminar was to better prepare UPSR students for their upcoming examinations by providing study and exam tips. 156 Standard 6 students and their parents, the respective school principals alongside their teaching staff from seven primary schools located in Mukim Serkat attended the seminar.
The schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Durian, Sekolah Kebangsaan Serkat, Sekolah Kebangsaan Andek Mori, Sekolah Kebangsaan Permas Kelapa, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Sinaran Chokoh, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Boh and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Pei Chiao.
The seminar is a part of a series of education initiatives planned for schools in Mukim Serkat this year. Earlier in April, Malakoff launched “Jom Sarap” at these schools to provide the school children with nutritious breakfast to improve their focus in class and also to encourage them to come early to school.
Speaking of the seminar, Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff, Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali believed that the event would provide more confidence to the students and motivate them to work harder to prepare for their UPSR in September.
“Our on-going educational programmes for the students demonstrate our commitment to our corporate social responsibility for the local communities where we operate. We believe education is key to development, that is why we are putting in our effort to help these students to do better in their studies,” he added.
During the three-day seminar, the students were taught on time management, study tips, methods on answering questions and other exam-related techniques.
On the last day of the seminar, parents of the UPSR students were encouraged to attend so that they could carry on motivating their children post-event. As preparing for a major examination could be quite stressful on the young ones, parents were reminded to continuously support their children to cope with the pressure.
The Principal of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sg Boh, Mrs. Zarina binti Sidik, said that the seminar was very useful for students who are currently preparing for the UPSR. She also acknowledged Malakoff’s effort in helping the students to achieve academic excellence.
“The students thoroughly enjoyed the programme and gained a lot of exposure and knowledge from it. The seminar impacted positively on the way they approach their studies,” she said.
The seminar ended with a presentation of certificates of participation to all students.
