136 UPSR students from seven primary schools in Mukim Serkat attended a 2-day motivational programme at Dewan Rahah, Kolej Tun Razak UTM Skudai, Johor on 26 and 27 April 2019. ‘Program Motivasi Kecemerlangan UPSR Mukim Serkat 2019’, is a collaborative programme between Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) and Majlis Pengurusan Komuniti Kampung (MPKK) Mukim Serkat. The event was jointly officiated by the Penghulu of Mukim Serkat, Yang Berusaha Tuan Roslan Bokari, and the Plant Manager of Tanjung Bin Power Plant, En. Mohd Kopli Yunus and was also attended by the Headmasters of the seven primary schools.

The schools involved in the programme were Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Durian, Sekolah Kebangsaan Serkat, Sekolah Kebangsaan Andek Mori, Sekolah Kebangsaan Permas Kelapa, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Sinaran Chokoh, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Boh and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Pei Chiao. This programme is part of Malakoff’s CSR initiatives to improve education in Mukim Serkat.

In his speech, En. Kopli encouraged the students to study hard in their preparation for their first big examination and “to apply the skills and tips that you have learnt throughout the programme to score in the exams. Hopefully, one day, you will give back to your family and make everyone in Mukim Serkat proud.”

Throughout the programme, the students underwent various activities designed at building self-confidence and discipline such as talks on examination techniques and mental preparation for exams, team building exercises, indoor games and jungle trekking.

The lead motivator for the programme, En. Shahrulhaizam Abbas hoped that the students will take back what they have learnt during the programme and grow into good members of society and obedient children to their parents. In addition, he said that, “we want them to excel in their studies, we also want to prepare them mentally and spiritually as they face the challenges in their lives.”

A Year 6 student from Sg Chokoh, Rabihul al Qayyum bin Rizal, felt inspired after going through the activities with his fellow friends and UPSR candidates. “Thank you, Malakoff, for this wholesome experience. Now, I know how to better prepare for the upcoming UPSR and hope to score straight A’s and work towards improving my family’s livelihood.”
