Malakoff Corporation Berhad successfully organised the 1st Malakoff Technical Conference 2019 that was held on 20-21 August 2019 at Malakoff Academy of X-cellence (MAX) Auditorium. The conference, attended by more than 100 participants from Malakoff site offices and Kuala Lumpur Headquarters (KLHQ), was an initiative to cultivate a knowledge-sharing culture between the site offices and KLHQ on technical experiences, best practices and lessons learnt.
The event was officially launched by Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, the Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff.
In his opening remarks, Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad said that “it is high time for a technical company like Malakoff to have a knowledge-sharing platform where its personnel are able to exchange their technical experiences and expertise at their respective plants.”
“The knowledge-sharing must not limit at Group level but must also be shared across the working level so we can have a cohesive workforce, working towards achieving Malakoff’s one and only vision which is to be a premier global power and water company”.
Dato’ Fuaad also expressed his appreciation to all subject-matter experts on the fruitful knowledge-sharing session that may very well surpassed what they have learnt throughout their University days.
There were 20 conference papers by 22 speakers presented from Lumut Power Plant, Prai Power Plant, Tanjung Bin Power Plant and Tanjung Bin Energy Power Plant and various business units from KLHQ such as Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability and Planning, Local Generation Division and Group Health, Safety, Security and Environment.
The topics discussed consisted of disciplines applied to operate and maintain a power plant locally and abroad, as well as industry experiences that contribute to system and technical efficiency.
The participants showed nothing but sheer enthusiasm by actively engaging with the presenters throughout the session, asking questions in relation to the topics at hand, exchanging ideas and sharing suggestions. The event also saw the maximised usage of technological medium in the Q&A and polling sessions and the evaluation of speakers.
At the end of the conference, the award for Best Presenter went to En. Shahrul Hazimi Muhammad Yusof, Section Head (Mechanical), Tanjung Bin Energy Power Plant for presenting on ‘Operational Experiences with TP304H and S304H Materials in a 1000MW Ultra Supercritical Coal Fired Power Plant Experience’, while Best Paper went to En. Mohd Rozaimie Abdullah, Principal Engineer, Mechanical (Gas Plant), Engineering Department, KLHQ for his substantial research on ‘Gas Turbine C-Inspection Optimisation Strategy’.
The same paper was also presented by Rozaimie at the regional Team Excellence Convention (TEC) organised by Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and won the Gold award that qualified it to compete at the 9th Annual Productivity & Innovation Conference 2019, to be held at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre on 5-7 November 2019.
