Malakoff 12km & 7km Kuala Lumpur Run 2011 will be held on 18 December 2011 at Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort. Organised for the fourth consecutive year, the Malakoff 12km & 7km Kuala Lumpur race, is an integral part of Malakoff’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility platform, the Malakoff Community Partnerships.

Speaking at the launch, Zainal Abidin Jalil, the Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff said, “At Malakoff, we are pleased to know that over the years, the Malakoff 12km & 7km Kuala Lumpur race has brought together people of varied backgrounds through this fun and engaging sporting event. This ‘Run with Family and Friends’ race is all about spending quality time with family and friends while being active and physically fit.”

The participants will be flagged off from Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort, and race through the hilly but shady route of Bukit Damansara, and back to the finish line at Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort.

The 12km race is open in six categories : the Men's Open (16 years and above), Men’s Veteran (40 to 50 years) and Men’s Senior Veteran (above 51 years), while the Women's Open is for those above 16 years, Women’s Veteran (35 to 45 years) and Senior Veteran (above 46 years).

The top five racers in each category will receive RM1,000 (first), RM800 (second), RM600 (third), RM400 (fourth) and RM200 (fifth). Additionally, trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each category and finisher’s medal for all those that complete the race within the specified qualifying time. The 7km race comes with prizes in the form of product vouchers for the top 3 finishers in the four categories of Men’s, Men’s Junior, Women’s and Women’s Junior.

Elaborating on the race, Zainal explained, “At Malakoff, we are encouraged by the fact that the popularity of this run has transcended geographical boundaries evidently through the participation of runners across the country, even all the way from the two farthest ends of the Peninsular – Penang and Johor.“

“We are also very pleased that the race has drawn a good following from the Malaysian expatriate community as well. We are thus confident that even more athletes will join in this time around and make it yet another success,” he added.

Organized in collaboration with the Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia (PACM), the popular event has also attracted participants from Malaysia’s expatriate community. Last year’s race recorded participation of runners from 20 countries such as Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Sweden, Japan, Kenya, United States and Singapore.

A fervent runner of decades, Rustam Affandi bin Zaihan the President of PACM said, “The Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia is pleased that Malakoff has been such a solid sponsor of community based races. Residents in urban cities such as Kuala Lumpur require an avenue to spend quality family time while participating in healthy sporting activities. Malakoff clearly understood the need and has played its part to address that requirement.”

The race is co-sponsored by Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort, Powerbar, Gatorade, World of Sport, Mizuno, Perskindol, Athlete’s Circle and Quick Release Adventures.

Registration is currently open for all categories of the 12km and 7km race. For the 12 km race, the entry fee for members of the public is RM65. Pacesetters and Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club members need only pay RM55.
