Malakoff 2012 Asia Junior Golf Team Championship

Malakoff 2012 Asian Junior Golf Team Championship was held recently at Damai Laut Golf & Country Club from Jan 8 to 10, 2012.

The inaugural sponsorship of the event is now an integral part of Malakoff’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility, the Malakoff Community Partnerships. The tournament was aimed to encourage sportsmanship and competitive excellence in Malaysia, on par with international standards through international events such as this tournament.

The three-day competition truly showcased the sheer determination and top-notch skill of all the players under 18 years old from the seven participating countries including Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand and, Malaysia.

28 players representing seven countries have demonstrated the power of will and sheer hard work to turn challenges into a win, despite the tropical heat that they have to go through at the scenic golf course. The team from Japan won the competition by narrowly edged Thailand in the Championship. They will represent Asia in the 2012 World Junior Golf Team Championship in Japan. Third place was won by the team from Chinese Taipei.

Malakoff has been an ardent supporter of community sporting events such as running and cycling, as well as multi-sport run-bike-run duathlons. This venture into golf is a natural progression to build world-class expertise among Malaysians in a game that is fast becoming a fad with the youth. Given the success of the competition this year, Malakoff will certainly consider to continue this trend in the years ahead.
