Malakoff Annual Charity Ride to raise RM180,000 for 21 Welfare Organizations and schools

~ 120 participants to cycle 470km from Kuala Lumpur to Johor over three days

24 April 2012, Kuala Lumpur – Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) recently launched the Annual Charity Ride 2012, aiming to raise RM180,000 to benefit 21 welfare organisations and schools in Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, as well as Johor. The event scheduled between 4 May and 6 May 2012, will see over 120 Malakoff employees and business associates cycle a distance of 470km from Kuala Lumpur to Pontian, Johor for the charitable cause.

Sponsored and organised for the seventh consecutive time, the Annual Charity Ride is a “Sports for Charity” initiative under Malakoff’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility platform – the Malakoff Community Partnerships.

Speaking at the launch, Zainal Abidin Jalil, Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff said, “I am pleased to launch the Annual Charity Ride as it is a unique opportunity for Malakoff to share not just its passion towards community sports, but also to reach out and contribute to the local communities.”

“The Annual Charity Ride is also organised as part of our long-term and continuous commitment to be a responsible and active participant of the community. Through such initiatives Malakoff aims to make positive difference to local communities year after year,” he added.

This year, over 30 of Malakoff’s leading business associates have thus far pledged to make contributions to the charity event. Major donors for this year’s Ride include Alstom Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd, Hicom Power Sdn Bhd, Bank Mualamat Malaysia Berhad, Allianz Malaysia Berhad, Siemens Malaysia Sdn Bhd and KAF Investment Bank Berhad. Currently, contributions are still pouring in and Malakoff will disclose the total amount during the celebration with the residents of charity homes on 6 May in Pontian.

Contributions collected from the Malakoff Annual Charity Ride will be donated to 21 welfare organisations and schools, which include Persatuan Sokongan Kanser Payudara Daerah Pontian, St John Ambulance Malaysia Pontian, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Islam located in Segamat, Jasin, Pontian and Batu Pahat, as well as nine schools within Mukim Serkat, Pontian namely SK Andek Mori, SK Sb Boh, SK Seri Sinaran Chokoh and SJK(C) Pei Chiao.

Zainal further said, “Apart from monetary contributions, Malakoff and its business associates will also be cycling for the worthy cause, in line with the theme of “Sports for Charity”. As such, while we are having fun, we are also contributing back to the society.”

“I would like to express my gratitude to our sponsors for their generosity and commitment in ensuring the success of this event for all these years. We look forward to their continuing support this year as well,” he added.

Since the inaugural Ride in 2006, Malakoff has distributed RM542,380 to 50 charity homes and orphanages throughout the country, including those in the states of Kedah, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perlis, Selangor, Perak and Terengganu. Over the past six years, contributions from business associates have increased steadily from RM47,900 in 2006 to RM73,880 in 2009. Last year, a record collection of RM170,000 was raised, indicating the growing success of the Annual Charity Ride.

Over and above this initiative, Malakoff also sponsors the Malakoff Interstate Fellowship Ride, Powerman Malaysia, Malakoff University Duathlon Series, Malakoff 17km and 7km Penang Run as well as Malakoff 12km and 7km Kuala Lumpur Run.
