As part of Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”)’s continuous engagement with the local communities, a ‘Karnival Sukan Rakyat’ was held last month at Padang Sekolah SK Segari in Lumut and Kompleks Penghulu Mukim Serkat in Pontian where more than 100 participants from the local communities participated.
Aimed at raising awareness on the importance to continue the traditional games or sports while cultivating inner leadership traits among the participants and encourage camaraderie, the event was attended by the Plant Manager of Lumut Power Plant Encik Lan Sukaimy Md Yusof, Senior Manager of Stakeholder Management Encik Md Yuha Ismail and the Chairman of Skuad Amal Masjid Khairul Jariah Encik Eddy Bin Mansor in Segari. Meanwhile in Pontian, the half-day event was attended by Malakoff’s representative, Encik Mohamed Ali Mohamed and the Village Chief of Mukim Serkat, Encik Zool Shuhaifi Hassin.
As participants began arriving at the school field, a breakfast spread was served to fuel them for a half-day of physical activities. The participants were then divided into the Male and Female groups where the top three for each sport activity would be given a prize.
Some of the traditional sports that were organised on the day were the Tug-of-War, sack race, musical chairs, individual net ball and many others. The sportsmanship and teamwork displayed among the students were so encouraging that some of the parents and spectators volunteered to participate in some of the activities.
After a fun-filled and wholesome morning, the event ended with a prize giving ceremony to honour the top three winners who had shown outstanding tenacity and endurance throughout the activities. The lucky draw winners were also announced.
This event is part of Malakoff’s Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiatives, focusing on the Community pillar. Besides enhancing a close working relationship with various stakeholders and the local communities, we hope that initiatives like these will further cultivate the spirit of ‘giving back to the community’ while fostering a stronger bond between one another.
