Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) recently organised a ‘Sukan Rakyat’ carnival at Mukim Serkat as part of its efforts to build, strengthen and sustain relationships with the local communities where it operates. Close to 1,000 local residents of all ages from the village participated in a host of exciting family-oriented attractions and telematch games at the event over the weekend.
The ‘Sukan Rakyat’ held from 14 to 16 June was organised in collaboration with the Penghulu and Jawatankuasa Kemajuan Kampung (JKK) of Mukim Serkat.
Speaking about the initiative, Zainal Abidin Jalil, the Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff said, “As Malakoff continues to expand its operations in Tanjung Bin, we are committed to work in close and active partnership with the local communities to share the benefits of our success with them.”
“I am pleased that the Malakoff ‘Sukan Rakyat’ was a positive collaboration between the Company and the local community. We will roll out more joint initiatives under our flagship Corporate Social Responsibility platform – the Malakoff Community Partnerships, that will bring us and the local residents together,” he added.
The weekend drew large crowds from eight villages in Mukim Serkat participating in various fun-filled activities, including a karaoke competition, colouring contest, costume challenge, sports activities and traditional games.
Adding more excitement to the Malakoff ‘Sukan Rakyat’ event, attractive prizes were awarded to the winners and participants. Overall, Malakoff invested RM16,310 for organising the event and prizes.
Visibly happy while recollecting his experience of the Malakoff ‘Sukan Rakyat’, Roslan Bin Bokari, Penghulu of Mukim Serkat said, “The event was a great opportunity for the community to come together and have fun as one big family. Overall, it was an enjoyable weekend and I look forward to other events in the future.”
“I would like to thank Malakoff for their generous contributions and active involvement. Their on-the-ground initiatives have benefitted the community in Mukim Serkat,” he added.
Recently, Malakoff also donated RM91,700 to benefit 396 school children and varsity students as well as selected organisations in Mukim Serkat. Beneficiaries included various JKKK, schools, mosques, local NGOs and fisherman associations in Mukim Serkat. Since 2011, the Company has contributed over RM710,147.71 for various welfare projects around the Tanjung Bin area.
