Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) participated in the launch of Hari Alam Sekitar Negara (HASN) organized by Johor’s Department of Environment (DoE) at Dataran Segamat on 22 October 2017. “Alam Sekitar Tanggungjawab Bersama” was picked as this year’s theme to instil the sense of responsibility towards the environment.

The event was launched by YB Datuk Haji Ayub bin Rahmat, Chairman of Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee.

Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff, YBhg Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali led representatives from Malakoff that included the Plant Managers from its Tanjung Bin facility, in a show of support towards the programmes championed by DoE.

“Johor DoE is one of our important stakeholders and we value their guidance and support in both strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations of our power plants,” he said.

A host of activities was organized in conjunction with the celebration that ran for two days, such as aerobics, carnival and exhibitions on the environment, fun run, colouring and drawing contests for school children.

During the event, Johor DoE also announced that they managed to collect 65 tonnes of household e-waste within one month, surpassing the total of 60 tonnes collected at the national-level celebration that was held in Negeri Sembilan the previous day.

Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad was also given the honour to accompany YB Datuk Ayub on stage during the launch, as an appreciation of Malakoff’s support towards the Department’s initiatives.

Also present on stage were Deputy Director General of DoE, YBhg En Mokhtar Abdul Majid; Director of Johor DoE, YBhg Dato’ Dr Mohammad Ezanni Mat Salleh; Segamat District Officer, YBhg En Mohd Haffiz Ahmad; Yang DiPertua Majlis Daerah Segamat, YBhg En Miswan Yunus; Tenang state assemblyman, YB En Mohd Azahar Ibrahim and Buloh Kasap state assemblyman, YB Pn Norshida Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, the launch of HASN at national level was held on 21 October 2017 at D’Tempat Country Club, Bandar Sri Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan and officiated by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, YAB Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Haji Hasan. Various stakeholders of DoE attended the launch, including Malakoff, which was represented by Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad.

Senior officials present from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) were its Minister, YB Dato’ Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar; Deputy Minister, YB Datuk Ir Dr Haji Hamim Samuri; Secretary General, YBhg. Dato’ Sri Azizan bin Ahmad; and Director General of DoE, YBhg Dato’ Dr Ahmad Kamarulnajuib Che Ibrahim.
