- Hail The Champions!
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Hail The Champions! 3 April 2010 On 30th April, the whole of Malakoff once again gathered for the annual sports carnival that was hosted this year by Tanjung Bin Power Plant (TBPP). Many arrived as early as Thursday to take part in 16 games, which included cycling criterium for the first time. The main venue was UTM, and some games were held at a few places within Johor Bahru. The players were put up in Scholar’s Inn and an apartment in UTM, and Good Hope Hotel in Skudai. The accommodation was cozy for the players to rest before competing in their events and convenient get to the games venues. Danga City Mall was selected as one of the venues for a favourite game – bowling. Archery and paintball were also played there – who would have thought that a shopping mall would have indoor facilities for these outdoor events! Congkak, pool and carom were also played here, with congkak being a popular event for the ladies and children. Unfortunately the games were halted by a blackout at 11pm and everyone had no choice but to return to their abodes with bowling and pool left unfinished. It was decided that only points for the first 2 games of bowling were tallied to determine the champion and joint winners were awarded for pool. The prize giving ceremony was held at Dewan Sultan Iskandar in UTM during the grand dinner on 1st May. The Chairman of Malakoff, Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali graced the function and presented awards for UPSR high achievers and long term service award (LTSA) for staff who has served the company for more than 10 years. Pride could be seen from the faces of their parents who accompanied their children on stage to receive the UPSR award. Their sacrifices, sweat and tears in bringing up the children finally paid off and what more, the joy were shared and acknowledged by the company. The UPSR high achievers received RM500 each while the LTSA recipients received a watch, a plaque and certificate as a token of appreciation for their years of service with the company. The company certainly valued their dedication and service given to the company from the day they joined the workforce, hence the award and the guaranteed gratuity for those who has served more than 10 years. The theme for this year’s dinner was ethnic traditional and the attendees wore colourful costumes from the traditional baju kurung and kebaya, the sexy saree and daring cheongsam. One of the winners came in Javanese prince attire and walked barefoot in the hall! Senior Vice President, Operation & Maintenance division, En Nordin Kasim presented prizes for the best dress winners that night. Deputy CEO of Malakoff, En Mohd Radzuan Yahya gave away the prizes to the champions of the 16 games held this year. Due to objections in several events, the overall champion was not announced by the secretariat and the announcement will only be made within this week. While enjoying dinner, the audience was entertained by cultural drum show by Muhibah Drum, cultural dances by LC Mutiara Warisan and live band performance by Yayasan Warisan Johor. The highlight of the night was the lucky draw and grand lucky draw, which were drawn and presented by Chief Financial Officer, Puan Ruswati Othman and En Mohd Radzuan. The audience was kept at the edges of their seats, where 20 winners were announced during dinner and they received prizes of electrical goods each, sponsored by Malakoff. Once again, appreciation and congratulations are in order, to TBPP Plant Manager, Mr Chew Yee Chuan and staff at TBPP for welcoming us and making us feel at home, to all Chef-de-Missions for spearheading their respective teams to victory, all participants and to Corporate Affairs & Communications department for the teamwork and co-ordination in making this year’s sports carnival an event to remember.

- Celebrating the 100th freight
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Celebrating the 100th freight 28 July 2008 The morning was greeted by blue sky strewn with white clouds that looked like streamers on a beautiful sunny day. Committee members were rehearsing for the memorable event and making last minute changes to the setting. The smell of durians wafted around the white “big top”-like tents. They were all in order to celebrate Tanjung Bin Power Plant(TBPP)’s commemoration of the 100th coal shipment to the plant yesterday. The celebration marked one of the major milestones for the plant as it is seen as an achievement for TBPP despite the many teething problems they had encountered at the beginning of its operations. 100 is a mark of a century, and this 100th shipment is a symbol of significant achievement for the plant, that they have been through thick and thin together and even after the 100th mark, they are still going strong and with God’s grace, will be able to operate for more years to come. Durians served at the lunch Since their first coal shipment approximately two and half years ago, where they took more than 48 hours to unload coal from the ship, now it takes them on average 36 hours to do so. Coal unloading jetty at TBPP TBPP also has their own coal unloading jetty to unload coal from ship to coal yard. The jetty has been accorded the Private Jetty License by Kastam Diraja Malaysia and duly issued with a Jetty Operating License by Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor, and it also complied with the International Code for the Security of Port and Ships Facilities (ISPS Code) as certified by Marine Department of Malaysia. To our esteemed colleagues at TBPP, congratulations on this great achievement and we pray that TBPP will enjoy more successes in its operations in the future.

- Malakoff Contributes its Wakalah Zakat in Conjunction with Aidilfitri
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back Malakoff Contributes its Wakalah Zakat in Conjunction with Aidilfitri 3 May 2021 On 4 May 2021, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) handed over a total of RM74,700 out of its ‘Wakalah Zakat’ fund to the Mukim Serkat and Kg Segari communities. The ceremony was held at Masjid Al-Amin Kg Sg Dinar and Masjid Khairul Jariah respectively, and in compliant with strict Standard Operating Procedures (“SOPs”). This yearly initiative is part of Malakoff’s Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) efforts and aimed at providing financial relief for families and individuals during Hari Raya. Apart from contributions to families and individuals, Malakoff also contributed its ‘Wakalah Zakat’ fund to nine mosques and ‘surau’ adjacent to its power plants in Tanjung Bin and Segari. In Mukim Serkat, the ceremony was officiated by Tanjung Bin Power Plant Manager, Encik Kopli Bin Yunus and attended by the Village Chief, Encik Zool Shuhaifi Bin Kassim and the Village Head of Kawasan 1 Mukim Serkat, Encik Ab Samir Bin Mahadi. A total of RM59,700 was handed over as part of Malakoff’s contributions to 199 ‘asnaf’ in Kawasan 1 Mukim Serkat. Additionally, Malakoff also contributed RM103,000 to be utilised for upkeeping and religious activities at eight mosques and ‘surau’ in Mukim Serkat. Encik Kopli Bin Yunus was overwhelmed by the amount of support shown by the community leaders in materialising this initiative. “It is evident that all of us share a common mission, and that is to ensure the ‘asnaf’ are able to celebrate Aidilfitri with minimal shortage of supplies and religious sanctuaries are well-kept and maintained all throughout the year”. While in Lumut, a total of RM15,000 was handed over to 50 ‘asnaf’ and RM24,000 to Masjid Khairul Jariah by Lumut Power Plant Manager, Encik Lan Sukaimy Bin Md Yusof. “Although this is a yearly affair, we can feel the impact from last year’s economy still spilling over to this year and assistance and aid are badly needed for the underprivileged to survive daily. Everyone is doing all they can to ensure they can provide for their children and it is even more heart breaking that some are not even able to buy ‘baju raya’ for their children during the Aidilfitri celebration due to financial constraints”, said Encik Lan Sukaimy. “We want to give them something to look forward to, hence, we hope with our contribution, we are able to ease their burden even by a little and give meaning to their Aidilfitri celebration again.” Meanwhile, Encik Zool Shuhaifi is optimistic that such initiatives will not only tighten the relationship between Malakoff and the local communities but can provide a morale boost for the recipients. “I appreciate the efforts by Malakoff in ensuring that the welfare of the community here is always taken care of. I hope this relationship can continue and blossom even more”. Malakoff’s CSR activities continue to be a cornerstone of its foundation for sustainable development, as we work closely with the local communities to ensure that their needs and well-being are taken care of.

- The Hand That Gives
Sharing important news and updates for you and the community Back The Hand That Gives 2 November 2008 I’m writing this as I am editing the pictures taken during MCB’s open house in Kuala Lumpur. The smiling faces in the collection of photos proved that everyone enjoyed themselves and the many plates on the tables, laden with delicious food was a sign that everyone had plenty to eat with a variety of Raya favourites to choose from. This year, we decided to deviate a little from our previous years’ venue and gave Hotel Istana a shot. MCB open house was held in the grand Mahkota Ballroom of the hotel on October 19, 2008 with staff, invited guests and their families arriving as early as 12 noon in their baju raya with parents and children mostly clad in matching colours. Our special guests for the day were children from Pondok Penyayang Raudhah who came all the way from Gombak and also school children from MCB’s adopted schools from Segari, Prai and Pontian. Pondok Penyayang Raudhah is home to orphans and delinquent juveniles and has been around for twenty years. They receive funding from generous individuals to cover the cost of their daily operations. The girls and boys from the orphanage, who formed a group called “Bintang Raudhah”, entertained us with a few songs and even surprised the guests with an impressive show on the percussion! The school kids from the adopted schools were on a 3-day-2-nights sponsored trip to Kuala Lumpur. Other than being our special guests for the open house, they were also taken around Kuala Lumpur for trips to the KL Tower, National Zoo, Desa Water Park, High 5 bread factory and Beryl’s chocolate factory. While Ramadan is a month of giving, the act should not stop there and must also follow through in the month of Syawal. We are more than grateful for what has been blessed upon us and as a way to honour those more in need, the orphans from the orphanage and the children from the adopted schools were presented with some token from us. As the saying goes, “give a man a fish, you have fed him for today, but if you teach him how to fish, you have fed him a lifetime”. While the duit raya presented might last for only a few days, but we hope that the school shoes that are given to each child would be put to good use, and to encourage them to attend school and study hard in order to open more windows of opportunity for them in the future. Hopefully this act of giving will not cease after Syawal but will be instilled and nurtured as a part of Malakoff’s culture towards those who are less fortunate.
