Ramadhan is not only about self-discipline, it is also a time to sympathize with the needy in one’s community and responding to their needs.

In the spirit of giving during the holy month of Ramadhan, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) organized a distribution of Zakat to the Asnaf at Masjid Khairul Jariah, Segari, Perak and Masjid Al Amin Sungai Dinar, Pontian, Johor on 23 and 26 May respectively.

The event in Pontian was attended by the Deputy Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office cum Pontian Member of Parliament, YB Datuk Wira Dr. Md Farid Md Rafik and Johor DUN Speaker, YB En Suhaizan Kayat, Chief Operating Officer of Malakoff, En Habib Husin, Head, Local Generation Division, En Mohammed Azmil Ismail and Tanjung Bin Power Plant Manager, En Mohd Kopli Yunus where a total of RM51,900 of zakat were distributed to 173 Asnaf recipients.

When asked about the contribution, Tuan Haji Abdul Hafiz Haji Abdul Rahman who is the Amil of Kampung Sungai Dinar said “the Asnaf are definitely grateful towards Malakoff’s offering especially when the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration is just around the corner where most of their earnings are heavily spent on basic Raya preparation such as food and beverages, home repairs and new pairs of Baju Raya for families with kids”.

“This can definitely help ease their burden financially”, he added.

Meanwhile, in Segari, the event was graced with the attendance of Orang Besar Jajahan Manjung, YDH Toh Seri Bijaya Lt. Kol (B) Dato' Shaharudin bin Haji Nazari accompanied by Lumut Power Plant Manager, En Mohd Salehuddin Abu Bakar where RM15,000 was distributed to 50 Asnaf recipients.

The zakat distribution was followed by a short tahlil before the breaking of fast and Iftar, led by the mosques’ respective Imams. The congregation then performed their Maghrib, Isya’ and Tarawikh prayers.
