Malakoff and the Energy Commission Compete for the 2022 Football Challenge Trophy

16 June 2022

As part of Malakoff Corporation Berhad’s (“Malakoff”) continuous engagement with its key stakeholders, the Group organised a friendly football match with the Energy Commission (“ST”) on 17 June 2022 at the Majlis Perbandaran Sepang football field in Cyberjaya, Selangor. After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, teams from both sides were eager to meet again on the pitch in this traditional event that brought together top players from the respective sides. Both teams were vying for the coveted Challenge Trophy which was last won by Malakoff in 2019.

The players entered the field and took their position before the referee blew the whistle at sharp 8:30 PM, with both sides getting off to a great start with concerted attempts at both sides of the pitch. Despite the heavy downpour, the players put up a spirited display in what turned out to be an entertaining match, cheered on by supporters from both sides. ST's Muhammad Nazrin Afifi drew first blood by putting the ball at the back of the net to give ST the lead in the first half.

The second half began with an offensive game from both teams after a much-needed respite. The teams played a more heated game in the second half, with Malakoff making several attempts to score to level the game. However, luck was not on our side as the ST team held on to their lead.

After a closely fought match, ST’s lone goal proved the difference as ST emerged as the champions and took home the Challenge Trophy for this year.

The event helped to foster camaraderie between Malakoff and ST while enhancing the working relationship between both parties. It was a great opportunity for both sides to display their sportsmanship while competing for the trophy. Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the match and the spectators were certainly treated to an entertaining showdown between both sides. Congratulations to ST and kudos to Malakoff for the excellent game!
