Malakoff Celebrates International Women’s Day 2024

19 March 2024

On 8 March 2024, Malakoff Corporation Berhad ("Malakoff") celebrated International Women's Day 2024, which falls on 8 March of every year, at Malakoff Headquarters(“Malakoff KLHQ”) at Plaza Sentral. Organised by the Employee Relations team from the People Division and Kelab Sukan Rekreasi Malakoff (“KSRM”), this year's event was designed to recognise the hardworking women of Malakoff, who are frequently overlooked, especially in the male-dominated power generation industry where women comprise only 22% of the workforce. This celebration also strives to support equal opportunities, acknowledge accomplishments, and cultivate a culture of respect towards women. It emphasises that being a woman imposes no limitations or restrictions on their potential achievements.

In alignment with these ideals, the dedicated team from Employee Relations held a photoshoot session exclusively for Malakoff women. The session took place at Level 7, where they were encouraged to adorn themselves in purple. It serves as a symbolic expression of unity and unwavering support for women in this industry. The colour purple holds profound significance, linked to International Women's Day as a potent symbol of justice and dignity. As a token of appreciation and acknowledgement for their tireless efforts and contribution, 50 roses were delicately distributed, symbolising gratitude for the dedication and resilience displayed by women essential to Malakoff’s success.

On the same day, Kelab Sukan Rekreasi Malakoff (“KSRM”) organised ‘Malakoff Ladies Day’, which was held at Malakoff Academy of Excellence (“MAX”). The event was officiated by the Head of Operations and Project Management Services, Madam Subrina Thiagarajah and the Head of Group Communications and Branding, PuanSuriati Mohammad Mokhtar. Ten vendors, including Kamelia Cosmetics, Bettys Kitchen and Preety Hair, actively participated, adding vibrancy to the occasion. The event gathered enthusiastic participation from 100 women staff from Malakoff KLHQ, creating a lively, empowered atmosphere.

The celebration of International Women's Day at Malakoff Corporation Berhad showcased a commitment to fostering inclusivity, recognition and appreciation for the invaluable contributions of women in the workplace. As we reflect on this celebration, it serves as a testament to Malakoff's dedication to creating an environment that values diversity, equality, and the continued empowerment of women within the organisation. It is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 5, which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and is aligned with our purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’.
