Malakoff Launches ‘Jom Ke Sekolah Bersama Mukim Serkat’

On 16th February 2023, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) had launched a ‘Jom Ke Sekolah Bersama Mukim Serkat’ programme at Masjid Al-Amin Kampung Sungai Dinar, Mukim Serkat in Pontian, Johor. Officiated by the ADUN of Kukup Yang Berhormat (“YB”) Datuk Haji Jefridin bin Atan, the event was also attended by the Plant Manager of Tanjung Bin Power Plant Encik Mohd Kopli bin Yunus, the Senior Leader of Tanjung Piai Parliament Encik Roslan Bokari, the Chief of Mukim Serkat Encik Zool Shuhaifi bin Hassin, other village chiefs of Mukim Serkat, headmasters and headmistresses of Malakoff’s adopted schools in Mukim Serkat, parents and students.

As part of our Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) initiative, this engagement programme with the local community focuses on the ‘Social’ pillar where we delve into the current issues pertaining to education and livelihood in the communities, we engage with and offer the relevant and adequate assistance. Through this programme, we provided cash vouchers for all 178 Standard 1 students to buy school necessities such as school uniforms, stationeries, school shoes and books to ensure that they are well-equipped with everything they need before the start of the new school year.

During his speech, YB Datuk Haji Jefridin emphasised that the rise in living cost could impact the students’ motivation to concentrate on their studies and access to necessities has indeed become a challenge.

“Education is vital as it provides a better opportunity for employment in the future. It is important for us as parents and teachers to ensure that the students have what they need and they remain driven to achieve their goals and ambitions. With that, I would like to express my gratitude towards Malakoff for their contribution and support for the students as it can definitely ease the burden off the parents.”

The event proceeded with a launch gimmick where 10 students were called upon on stage to receive a gift in the form of vouchers and school necessity samples, symbolising the contribution from Malakoff to the schools before proceeding with a group photo opportunity with YB Datuk Haji Jefridin. To conclude the event, a teatime spread was prepared with a variety of local delicacies for everyone to enjoy.

This event is part of Malakoff’s Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiatives, focusing on the Community pillar where it demonstrates our continuous commitment to support our adopted schools in Mukim Serkat. Besides enhancing our relationship with various stakeholders and the local communities, we hope that initiatives like these will further cultivate the spirit of ‘giving back to the community’ while fostering a stronger bond between one another.
