Malakoff Sponsors Breakfast for Schools for the Third Year Running

24 February 2020

Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) has continued its free breakfast programme, ‘Jom Sarap’ for the third year running at 7 primary schools in Mukim Serkat, Pontian, Johor. The programme was launched on 25 February 2020 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Durian and was officiated by Yang Berusaha Tuan Haji Kamarudin Bin Mohd Tahir, a representative from the Johor State Department of Education, witnessed by Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali, Chief Executive Officer of Malakoff and Yang Berusaha Encik Mohd Faiz Bin Hj Azman, a representative from the Pontian District Office.

Also present were Encik Roslan Bokari, Penghulu Mukim Serkat, Village Heads and the respective school principals.

This programme is aimed at providing the school children with nutritious breakfast to improve their focus in class and to encourage them to come early to school. A total of 953 school children from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Durian, Sekolah Kebangsaan Serkat, Sekolah Kebangsaan Andek Mori, Sekolah Kebangsaan Permas Kelapa, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Sinaran Chokoh, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Boh and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Pei Chiao will benefit from this initiative which will be carried out from 2 February until the end of August 2020.

In his opening speech, Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Kenali acknowledged the support that Malakoff received from the schools which made it possible to continue ‘Jom Sarap’ for the third consecutive year.

“I am grateful that we have made it this far as we truly believe that it is important that the children receive the right nutrition to fuel them to be more attentive in class and subsequently excel in their studies.”

In his speech at the launch, Tuan Haji Kamarudin said, “The children are the product of our future hence it is our responsibility to ensure that both their physical and mental development are taken care of. This initiative symbolises a collaboration between many entities towards moulding our future leaders and I am truly honoured to see how committed Malakoff is in driving this forward”.

As a launching gimmick, a “teddy bear” made its way to the stage, to the audience’s delight, to hand over an iPad to the Guest of Honour. The iPad was then swiped to reveal the Jom Sarap launch video.

During the event, Malakoff also handed over various reference and reading materials to the respective school principals in a move to enrich the schools’ libraries through a collaboration with the MPH Group.

The reference books act as supplementary revision materials to aid the students in preparation for their exams while books on general knowledge are aimed at improving their language proficiency and knowledge expansion.

Primary 4 student from SK Sungai Durian, Nur Qalesya Umairah binti Mohd Yadzil expressed how grateful she was to enjoy nutritious breakfast before she starts her day as she understands that a good breakfast is key in maintaining her energy level for the day.

“A wholesome breakfast keeps me going throughout the day,” she said and shared that she wants to study hard and excel in order to give back to her family.

In addition to the free breakfast, Malakoff will also be conducting a series of tuition classes and a motivational and examination technique seminar for UPSR candidates at the respective schools.
