MUDS UPNM

1 August 2008

The final instalment of Malakoff University Duathlon Series was held at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) last Saturday. By far, this is the longest of the series, which is 4km run, followed by 20km bike and 4km run.

It was a very hot affair and many participants did not manage to finish the race after the bike transition. One long distance runner had to stop his race after the bike leg due to the hot weather.

Nevertheless, hats off to UPNM for being the best organizer among all three venues. UPNM also was crowned the university with the most participants and most Top 5 wins after three duathlon installments.

For this race, national duathlete Heidilee Mohamad won in the Men’s Open category while his sister, national duathlete Mariana Mohamad won the Women’s Open category.

No serious injuries(other than the usual cramping due to insufficient training) or accidents were recorded during the event. The participants also commented on UPNM’s superb marshalling for the race but most were a little disappointed with the route as it was the flattest route compared to previously held MUDS in UM and UKM, causing them to pedal all the way as there were no downhill that they could relax on.

Congratulations to Quick Release and Corporate Affairs department for a well-organized event.
