Malakoff Strengthens Community Awareness and Sustainability Efforts as MELP Energy Hunt 2025 Co-Organiser

The MELP Energy Hunt 2025 was successfully held on 6 December 2025, bringing together an engaging and educational experience under the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme (“MELP”). This MELP flagship programme gathered 120 participants comprising MELP partner employees, media members, bloggers, key opinion leaders (“KOLs”) and students from higher learning institutions. Malakoff Corporation Berhad (“Malakoff”) co-organised the event alongside NUR Power and Edra Energy.

This year’s MELP Energy Hunt marked the first-ever joint initiative by Independent Power Producers (“IPPs”), featuring a series of activities that encouraged participants to use public transportation and complete various energy-related tasks. These included challenges such as Hero Hijau, Energy Transition, Watt’s the Limit, Treasure Hunt questions and Energy Trivia – each designed to enhance participants’ understanding of energy literacy and environmental sustainability through hands-on learning.

This initiative provided an experiential learning platform for participants to better understand Malaysia’s energy landscape while encouraging more sustainable daily practices. The programme aims to elevate awareness of energy literacy and environmental responsibility among university students and media practitioners, strengthen MELP’s brand presence and enhance collaboration between government agencies and IPP players.
During the flag-off ceremony, Malakoff was represented by Mohd Kopli Yunus, Senior Vice President of Local Generation Division, together with Lee Han Leng, Chief Financial Officer of NUR Power Sdn. Bhd. and Zhong Xiangwen, Chief Financial Officer of Edra Power Holdings Sdn. Bhd. Their presence demonstrated the shared commitment of all three co-hosting organisations in advancing public awareness on energy efficiency and responsible consumption.

Malakoff fielded two teams – Blackout Busters and ReNex – in the MELP Special Category. Both teams displayed commendable competitiveness, with Blackout Busters clinching the award for Best Social Media Posting and securing 6th place overall, while ReNex finished in 8th place.

The programme concluded with an inspiring closing address by Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (“PETRA”) and Chairman of the MELP Steering Committee, at the ceremony held at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur. His remarks stressed the crucial role of energy literacy as Malaysia accelerates its transition towards a cleaner, greener and more resilient energy future.

As Malakoff marks its 50th anniversary, the MELP Energy Hunt 2025 aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (“UN SDG”) No. 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, underscoring Malakoff’s commitment to promoting energy awareness and responsible consumption in the communities we serve. Guided by our purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’, we remain focused on fostering meaningful engagement that supports a more sustainable and energy-conscious future.
